WITH .THE ARMY Corps of Engineers’ plans for the Salem Church Dam, dropped both Governor Mills Godwin and the Fauquier Board of Supervisors have supported a study to designate the Rappahannock River a “scenic river.”
In a Richmond news conference on October 8, Governor Godwin said he would ask the Virginia Commission of Outdoor Recreation to study the possible scenic river status of “portions” of the Rappahannock River.
And on a request from the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission, the Fauquier Supervisors last Thursday “expressed an interest” in having the Commission of Outdoor Recreation conduct a study to gather the data needed to justify scenic river designation for both the Rappahannock River and Goose Creek in the county.
