MADISON Wildlife Association begins its annual trials earlier this j'ear with the opening event, Bird Dog " Trials , scheduled for Saturday, October 26.
For a second consecutive year, the Bird Dog T-rials will be first of the fall events sponsored by the Association, instead of the usual Beagle Trials. With the race set to begin at 9 a.m. on the Ernest Yowell farm on Ruth Road, approximately two miles west of Madison, the trials will feature three classes: Class 1, County Dogs; Class 2, Out-of-County Dogs; and Class 3, Grand Champion.
The Beagle Trials will follow two weeks later, Saturday, November 9, at 9 a.m. on the Yowell farm. The race is open to out-of-county dogs as well as county beagles, with competition in two classes. Dogs will be divided into groups of 13-inch and under and 15-inch and under with a Grand Champioir to be named in final judging.
Lunch will be served at the “Honky-Tonk” for both the Bird Dog and Beagle Trials with hamburgers grilled over an open fire.
HIGHLIGHT of the season is the traditional Fox Drag Race and Horn Blowing Contest held at the A. Lawton Blankenbaker farm at Haywood. Scheduled for Saturday, November 30, at 10 a.m., in-county and out-of-county participants are welcomed.
Concluding the day’s events, a homestyle hunt breakfast will be available at the Blakenbaker home. Prepared by Mrs. Lawton Blankenbaker, the menu consists of a long-time specialty, spareribsand sauerkraut served with “crackling” bread. An abundance of vege
