YOUTHS from throughout Rappahannock enjoyed a touch of “Summer Magic’’ as they participated last week in the 4-H Day Camp held at Boston (the Methodist Camp). The camp program concluded Friday, June 27. The camp staff was all volunteer. More than 60 young people attended, and were divided into four groups with the following leaders: Miss Kathy Dwyer, Mrs. Brenda Hitt, Mrs. Amy Monahan, Mrs. Mona Green and Miss Karan Kuhn.
Morning activities offered and instructors for each were: Mrs. Donna Fisher and Mrs. Gracie Caliandro, arts and crafts; the Rev. Jenning Hobson and Rev. Ronald Wiley, athletics; Mrs. Judy Bomberger, music and games; Mrs. Helen Holschuh, outdoor cookery; Clifton Jenkins and Evan Sharp, nature; Paul Poling, first aid.
Afternoon events included a dip in the pool, which was supervised by Miss Susan Latham, life guard and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bomberger, pool assistants. A bicycle safety program was conducted by W.A. Buntin, slides from Finland were shown by Ari Rintella, a demonstration on police dog training was given by Trooper Bratton and John H. Johnson offered musical entertainment.
HIGHLIGHT of the week was a field trip Friday to Dickey Ridge on Skyline Drive where the youths saw a nature film at the visitors center and heard a talk about the Park Service. This was concluded with a cookout and a nature hike down to the Snead farm.
