“Close-ups” The close-up last week was not a strawberry, not a plucked chicken, not a piece of bread, but it was the side of a man’s face; in fact, it was Sam Flick’s face. Three correct entries were received and from these the name of Ashby Green of Amissville was drawn. The others who were correct were Richard Fitzek and Bobby Harrell. Fourth of July

events on tap CRAFTS, BOOKS, PLANTS, pictures, baked goods, antiques, and many other items will be available Friday at the Independence Day celebration scheduled to begin at noon in the Town of Washington. In addition to the flea market there will be demonstrations on spinning, weaving, macrame, wood working and many handcrafted articles will be on display and for sale. Hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelons, cider, popcorn and drinks may be topped off with a dessert from the bake sale booth. A maze and other Elizabethan games will be provided and the opportunity to fire a flintlock rifle is yours. Selections may be made from the displays of pottery and persons wishing may try their hand at throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel. Photography shows and portraits taken will be features of the day and handcrafted merchandise will be available, including metal, beads, leather and crocheted handwork. An auction is scheduled at 4 p.m. RLEP will sell letters concerning the powerline fight in the area. Proceeds from the day’s events will go toward the court appeal on the powerline resulting from the recent decision by the State Corporation Commission. In the evening games,demonstrations and other activities will be held at Avon Hall, home of Mr. and Mrs. William Carrigan and the day will be climaxed at about 9 p.m. with a fireworks display around Avon Lake.D
