GAME Wardens J. D. Dedrick and L. R. Buchanan reported one adult and one immature eagle in the Port Royal area of the Rappahannock River. This is the first young eagle seen in this area in some time. This sighting helps confirm a recent report by Jackson M. Abbott, Coordinator of the Chesapeake Bay Region Bald Eagle Survey indicating that Virginia eagles are holding their own. In his report, Mr. Abbott states that Virginia’s nesting bald eagle population has held steady for 14 years with a hatching success ratio of about 25%.
