ANIMAL Industry Day is for cattlemen and their families. The 12th Annual Virginia Tech Animal Industry Day will be held on the Virginia Tech Campus July 18, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Early arrivals can view the exhibits and tour the beef, swine, and sheep centers. At 9:30 the morning program begins with Dr. Milton B. Wise as Master of Ceremonies. At 10 a.m. the new President of Virginia Tech, Dr. W. E. Lavery, will speak on “Your Land Grant University in the 1970’s.” Afterwards the Ohio State University Dean of Agriculture will speak on “Adaptations and Adjustments to the Cost Price Crunch in Livestock Agriculture.”
A free lunch of charcoaled burgers, genuine Smithfield pork barbecue, baked beans and watermelon will be served at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. Curtis C. Mast, Extension Animal Scientist, will moderate a panel on production topics. These include pasture management, forage finishing systems and the resulting cracasses, winter management of brood cows, add sheep to increase profit, economics of cattle management and marketing systems.
LATER at 2:30 p.m. people attending will have a choice of attending either a swine or horse program. The horse program will feature Dr. Tom Meacham demonstrating the “Economic Care, Management, and Use of the Pleasure
