Robinson opposed
land use measure
Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson has expressed approval of a House Interior Committee vote to table a federal land-use bill. The Seventh District Representative, who had voted against such legislation in the past Congress, commented:
“Virginia doesn’t need a bill by Congress to tell the Commonwealth —or its citizens—how best to use Virginia land.’’
He called the tabled bill “unneeded and mischievous legislation which would use federal land planning assistance funds as bait to lure States and local jurisdictions into acceptance of ‘guidelines’ dictated from Washington.’’
Robinson noted that the Committee vote did not preclude revival of the issue, but said he doubted it could come up for consideration of the House side of Congress again in this session.□
