Shenandoah National Park will open Camp Hoover to the public August 7 and 8, according to Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen. Buses will be available to transport visitors from Byrd Visitor Center at Big Meadows to the former President’s retreat, starting at 10 a.m. mi both days and continuing until 4 p.m. Private automobiles will not be permitted to travel the narrow fire road because of insufficient parking space near Camp Hoover.
A guided hike will leave from the visitor center at Big Meadows both mornings at 9:30 a.m. Participants in the hike should be prepared for a six-mile round
