IN Loudoun, which has experienced more growth than Fauquier already, the citizens and public officials seem to have learned a different lesson. They say “no” to developers at every opportunity. Just this past week, the county planners said “no” to another re-zoning request which they felt would overtax the county’s ability to handle—in schools, police, utilities, &c. — and they recommended denial of the rezoning. The Supervisors have been sued repeatedly by developers, so far unsuccessfully, but they continue to not only talk about trying to save what is left of Loudoun’s rural heritage, but they’re also willing to act in support of that goal.
Please, Rappahannock citizens and officials. Heed the example of Loudoun, and not Fauquier. Don’t let our lovely county go the way of Prince William and Fairfax, or Fauquier. Let’s protect Rappahannock’s beautiful heritage so that we can pass on something of what we enjoy to future generations, and not toss it all out the window for the illustion of quick-buck benefits. □
