THE Mountain Valley Handicraft Festival and Exhibition, officially recognized by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration and the Virginia Independence Bicentennial Commission, will be held August 25-29, at the Warren County Fairgrounds, near Front Royal.
The Festival will bring together major name craftpeople from 18 eastern states. According to Robert Porter, festival director, many of the craftpeople who will be participating are rarely seen away from their own state.
Craftpeople from the 13 original states plus Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Vermont and Maine will participate in the Festival. They will be seen working at or explaining their crafts and will also offer their craft items for sale. All exhibit spaces are under cover so that the Festival will be held all five days, rain or shine.
The Festival will feature dulcimer making, stained glass, pottery, wooden toys, candles, woodenware, weaving, jewelry, macrame’, leather, blown glass, tin and metal work, furniture making, woodcarving, patchwork clothing, corn husking, apple dolls, quilts, broom making, basket making, doll furniture and houses, soft stuffed toys, tole history painting, silhouettes, water colors, burlap flowers, egg art, stitchery, batik, scrimshaw, metal sculpture, featherwork, and blacksmithing.
In addition, members of the Pamunkey Indian tribe of Virginia will be on hand to exhibit and sell their pottery, jewelry and related crafts.
