FAUQUIER Planning Commission chairman Phillip Nelson characterized the Rappahannock sheriff’s department as “ somewhat of a disaster area” in remarks made -last Thursday evening at a Fauquier public information hearing.
Nelson’s statement was made in conjunction with a , comparison between population density and services offered by a county government. According to Jones, the “arrest clearance rate” in Rappahannock jumped from 11 per cent in 1975 to 33 per cent in 1976. The 33 per cent rate is considerably higher than the clearance rate for the state as a whole, which was only 21 per cent in 1975, noted Jones.
In comparison, the “clearance rate” in Fauquier County was 19 per cent in 1975 and only eight per cent in 1976, according to Jories’s figures.
