for one word in our companies’ titles, “volunteer.” This county could not afford a tax base to buy this equipment, not to mention the salaries of the personnel to operate a Fire Department.
I can only hope that some day I, along with other firemen, will be able to walk out of a burning house and hear praise for our work rather than criticism from people who have never spent long hours in schools or participated in drills to learn the correct way to extinguish a fire. We, too, are human, and our only pay is your praise and satisfaction with our work. We can understand that some of the comments and rumors that we have to live with come from people who are uneducated in the Fire Service field. If only these people could learn the basics of firefighting, they could help support their firemen instead of giving unlimited criticism.
