ARCHITECT Avery Falkner presented the Rappahannock Supervisors two basic alternative plans for expansion of the clerk’s office, at last Thursday’s Board meeting. The separation of the buildings surrounded by green lawns adds to the attractiveness of the court house complex, said Falkner; all of the expansion schemes would carry out this standard.
Under Scheme A, the expansion would be added directly to the rear of the existing clerk’s office. “Architecturally, it’s very attractive,” said Falkner, with the front of the building reproduced at the rear of the expansion for “a bookend effect.” The record room would be moved to the new room at the back and the clerk’s area would be screened from the corridor, he noted. A new basement in the addition could possibly be connected to the court house by a tunnel, and extra tunnel width would be excellent for use as dead record storage space, Falkner said.
With Scheme A, the clerk’s records would have to be moved twice and this could create problems, according to Falkner. The records are public records and in the move there could be a loss of public access in addition to the possibility
