It has been most evident in the past few weeks during the recent fires in Rappahannock County that some of our citizens in the community have been dissatisfied with the service they are receiving from their volunteer Fire Departments. From the people who stand at the fire scene and watch these houses burn and the local firemen putting their lives on the line to help save the property of others, you would. be inclined to think that the public would be grateful for these services. But we still have a few citizens who have nothing better to do than criticize what they see and do not understand.

The public must realize that these local fire companies have worked hard to get the equipment they have, and not one cent of the county’s tax base has helpedtopay for these services. This free service consists of the best firefighting equipment volunteer companies can afford and which would have to be paid for by the citizens of Rappahannock County if it were not
