SKIP has been operating for three years in Culpeper County and two years in Orange, according to Ms Washington.
In receiving permission from the School Board to use a classroom for the program, Ms Washington emphasized that the school facilities would serve primarily as a meeting place and alternate activity location. She added that transportation home for the children in SKIP would also be provided.
Ms Washington noted that school census figures show nine students in Rappahannock between the ages of 12 and seventeen that could be served by SKIP. “We will offer the program if only five are interested,” she said. “If less than five are interested, then we’ll try to include them in another county’s program.”

Charles Wigal of Washington, Va. struck and killed a deer on Route 211 four miles west of Amissville last Thursday. According to Trooper R. A. Baines, Wigal was operating a 76 Oldsmobile.
