io me eanor: I would like to join the debate on the Equal Rights Amendment. It seemed to me, as a volunteer soliciting signatures in support of the amendment during the election, that many women were frightened of the ERA. Housewives particularly seem to be worried that if the ERA is passed, the family will be threatened, as husbands will no longer be required to support their wives nor fathers to support their children.
If the ERA is finally passed, it will mean simply that neither the federal government dor the state governments could have laws that discriminate against women or men simply on account of sex. That would mean that those states which require husbands to support their wives, but not wives to support their husbands, or fathers but not mothers to support their children, would have to change their laws to
