Whorton
Services for Martha Jane Whorton of Flint Hill were held Sunday at the Washington Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John Burke. Burial followed in Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Whorton died Friday, December 30, 1977, in Warren Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 30, 1916, in Boyce, a daughter of the late Morris Burke and Susan Burke. She was a member of Gid Brown Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence F. Whorton; one son, Thurmon Whorton of Flint Hill, one daughter, Lyla Jane Hawkins of Centreville; eight grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
Pall bearers were Clarence Giles, Kirk Davis, Frank Huff, Charles K. Estes, Robert Leake and Frankie Huff.
Willis
Edgar Oswald Willis Jr. died in Culpeper Wednesday, December 21, 1977. He was 81.
Funeral services were held December 23 at the Culpeper Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Horace Douty. Burial was in Culpeper Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Willis was a veteran of World War I and a prominent Culpeper businesman. He sat on the Culpeper Town Council for 28 years and was a charter member of the Culpeper Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Townsend Willis; a son, Edgar O. Willis, III, of Winchester; two daughters, Mrs. David Partington of Richmond and Mrs. John Charles Flynne of Portland, Me.; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. H. B. Winfrey and Mrs. Dillard Glenn, both of Woodville.
Brown
Paul Russell Brown, 85, of Amissville died Friday, December 29, 1977,, ,in Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton, of injuries sustained in a traffic collision earlier that day. He was a native and life long resident of Amissville. His wife, Genevieve predeceased him. He was a Veteran of World War I and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church near Amissville. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Olivia Washington of New Britian, Conn, and Mrs. Joan Doores of Oxon Hill, Md.; a son, Russell Roper of Charlestown, W. Va. and a foster son, Donnell Carter of Amissville. A funeral service was held Tuesday at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Carter Allsberry. Interment was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at Amissville.
