Irvin Kenyon has received an informal endorsement from the executive committee of the Rappahannock Citizens for Better Education to fill Walter Masterson’s seat on the county School Board. Masterson's term expires in June. The Rappahannock County School Trustee Electoral Board will meet on June 20 to appoint a new member to a four year term.
As a Rappahannock resident who has never had children in the school system here. Masterson’s reappointment has met with some opposition.
At Monday's meeting of the Rappahannock Citizens for Better Education, chairman Ron Wiley announced that the organization's executive committee had talked about an alternative to Masterson and decided upon Irvin Kenyon. (Kenyon is a resident of Slate Mills who has two children enrolled at the elementary school and is a member of Citizens for Better Education.)
Wiley proposed that anyone interested in supporting Kenyon’t appointment contact a member of the Electoral Board. He noted that the Electoral Board members — C. E. Johnson, George Muth and John S. Browning — are also up for reappointment in July.
