He reported that, in many cases, homework and test papers are not returned to the child. Summer' said when he visited the elementary school lor a conference, his child's teacher couldn t tind assignment papers. He added that, as a result, he knew his child was doing poorly in math but didn't know in what specific area or why.
Wiley suggested that the elementary school's Parent Teacher Association be brought into work with the Citizens for Better Education to improve communication between the parent, teacher and child.
Sharon Kilpatrick asked if there was a PTA at the high school and was told none existed.
"Leadership has to come from the school administration." commented Miller. "Otherwise, a PTA is not very effective." he added.
