berries. Wash, drain and remove caps. For each pound of berries use one pound of sugar.
Combine berries and the sugar in alternate layers and let stand over night before cooking. While heating to boiling, stir carefully to prevent crushing. Boil rapidly 15 or 20 minutes until clear and syrup is somewhat thick, taking care to prevent burning. Remove the scum, while boiling.
Pour at once into hot sterilized jars and seal.

two-thirds cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
'/< teaspoon salt
V* cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Vi cup chopped nuts
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Melt margarine in a pan large enough to serve as mixing bowl. Remove from heat and stir in brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Add nuts. Stir in dry ingredients. Spread in a greased 8 inch pan. Bake in a moderate oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut inti) bars and cool. Yields 12 to 16 bars.
