To the editor:
On the editorial page of the Rappahannock News, the owner and editor, Mr. Arthur W. Arundel propounded his views about the “Ski Area.”
I would like to take issue with several of his points. The commercial classification given to that property does not permit single family dwellings nor some form of housing development. To threaten the citizens of the county with such an alternative is pure blackmail.
I guess we should be overjoyed that just in the nick of time the German made Alpine slide has come along. I remember well when in the early 1950 many people received x-ray treatment for benign diseases, this clean technology gives us cases of cancer today. To allow this type of development is tantamount to a future malignancy in the County.
To say that it is simply stupid to pour money into the sort of litigation is ignoring the facts. The development of this mountainside amusement park will cost the County a great deal more if it should be developed.
Had Mr. Arundel taken the time to come and participate in the public hearings on the subject property he would now be better informed. As an editorial writer he has an obligation to his readers to get the facts straight.
