A wide variety of wellmanaged farms will be on display Saturday, July 15, at the second annual Virginia Farm Management Tour, this year highlighting Culpeper farms. The public is invited to tour Rapidan River Farm, Van Wingerden of Culpeper, Inc., Ashland Farms, Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises, Inc., Zeuswyn Farm, Bel Pre Farm and Quail Haven Farm. At each of the sites on the tour, stop directors will give a presentation on the unique management aspects of that farm, said W. A. Spillman Jr., tour chairman. The tours will be conducted continuously from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Rapidan River Farm is one of the finest Morgan Horse breeding farms in the nation. There are about 125 horses and over 30 buildings on the 1,000-acre farm. The farm routinely produces national champions and cooperates with all phases of the horse industry to conduct educational, research, developmental and youth programs.
Van Wingerden of Culpeper, Inc. is a yearround commercial greenhouse operation with four and a half acres under plastic domes. It supplies vegetable and bedding plants, hanging baskets and foliage plants to retailers.
Ashland Farms is a Grade A dairy farm, with 147 Holstein cattle. The herd average production is 16,960 pounds of milk and 610 pounds of fat. The farm also produces corn, alfalfa, and
