“Shenandoah National Park is an unusual park in that it’s only 60 per cent completed,” Jacobsen said. The Park Service has obtained to date 194,000 acres: 133,000 acres remain in holding outside the congressionally authorized and intended boundary, according to the Superintendent.
He indicated that the General Management Plan now being formulated for Shenandoah National Park is likely to propose other acquisition methods as a means of correcting the difference between the actual Park boundary and the authorized and intended boundary adopted by Congress.
