The county's legal bills keep piling up, but at the September meeting of the county Supervisors, the Board appeared unanimous in its decision to ignore the ever increasing debt—at least for a while.
As part of the routine review of accounts. Clerk Diane Bruce read a bill for $.1,794 from attorney Robert Fitzgerald for work on two cases for the Board of Zoning Appeals. Noting an additional charge of $283.t>0 since last month in the suit involving P. E. Steve DeMent. the Supervisors and the BZA. Ms. Bruce pointed out that the bill included costs through August 15 only. "They've been in court since then." she added.
Commonwealth's Attorney George Davis advised the Board to wait until litigation in both the DeMent case and the suit involving the Rappahannock Ski Corporation. the Supervisors and the BZA is terminated before acting on the debt.
