The Rappahannock School Board’s discussion on capital outlay projects scheduled for the September Board meeting was definitely not representative of real need. If the thirty some citizens who attended the meeting expected to hear a realistic assessment of building needs for the county’s school system, they were disappointed.
Instead, two Board members had no priorities for capital outlay while the remaining three listed installation of bulk gasoline storage tanks as the most critical building need for Rappahannock’s public schools.
We won’t argue whether gas storage tanks are really that important. But why make them the number one priority in capital outlay projects when there's already money in this budget to buy the tanks and put them in? The 1978-79 school budget, approved by the School Board and the XfCn/ut Supervisors, sets asides .UOO for preparation of the site for the new school bus garage and allots $8,000 for gasoline tanks and pumps, including installation.
