A new course record was set on Saturday as Doug Wood of Quantico broke away from a field of 241 to finish the 10-kilometer Fodderstack road race with a time of 34 minutes, seventeen seconds. This year’s record in the threeyear-old race bettered that set last year by Chris Flavin of Washington, D. C., when he ran the 6.2 miles in 35 minutes, 8 seconds.

Entrants in the Fodderstack Classic, held for the benefit of the Rappahannock Recreation Association, have been increasing steadily each year, and the race is attracting good local and notso-local runners. This year’s participation was up from
