Win Awards
Eight elementary band students represented Rappahannock County for the first time in District IX’s annual Solo and Ensemble Festival held Saturday, April 11, at Seneca Ridge Middle School in Sterling.
Several youngsters participating won superior and excellent ratings for their renditions and will receive medals at the elementary school’s spring awards assembly in recognition of their achievements.
This was the first competition for Rappahannock’s contingent. As part of District IX, they competed with students from Prince William, Culpeper, Fauquier, Loudoun and Warren counties.
Local youngsters, their instruments and the pieces they performed were:
—Jane Kidwell, two Russian songs on flute; Leslie Nichols, II Primo Canto on clarinet; David Fisher, Fanfare and Ceremony March on trumpet; Tom Massie, Among the Stars on trumpet; Tara Fisher, two Russian songs on flute; Stephen Wiley, Iliad on trumpet; Marc Wiley, Silver Skater Waltz on trombone; Chad Bear, Julia Maurine Waltz on trumpet.
The elementary band is part of the after-school music program directed by Robin Dexter.
