As an example, a farmer who sells an acre off of a 100-acre parcel receiving land use must reapply for the balance of his 99 acres at a cost of $64.85. There is no charge, however, for revalidation if no changes have occurred.
Supervisor H. B. Wood agreed that revalidation will be worth the effort. “They can do it when they come in for their county tags,” he added.
Without the revalidation requirement, “I think there are a lot of people in the county who will conveniently forget” to report changes in their property. Luke added.
As for the $50 plus 15 cents an acre application fee, the supervisor chairman noted that this can be adjusted up or down later as the need arises. “We’re trying to get the program to pay for itself administratively,” he said, adding that the commissioner of revenue thinks another employee will be needed—at least when the program first gets underway—to handle land use.
