Rappahannock boys showing outstanding ability included Tim Williams in the shot and discus; Eugene Grigsby in the 100 and 200 and in distance running, Ron Dougherty, Scott Keithley and Mike Tomko. Harrison Hughes placed first in the high hurdles.
In previous competition with Warren County, RCHS girls swept the discus and shot put classes and tied for first in the high jump. Tammy Atkins broke the school record in the discus with 103’ 3”. Donna Gore and Marie Davis are throwing in the high 90’s. The meet score was 58-56.
Recent competition with Strasburg showed Rappahannock chalking up a score of 72 against 51 for the Rams in the girls division. The same three ladies excelled in the discus while Mary Jordan and Melissa Turner placed first and second respectively in the shot. This has been continuous performances for them.
Crystal Porter dominates the long jump in these meets, followed closely by Raynetta Gheen. Others in the first three placings are Ann Thomas in the mile; Ronda Wiley in the 440; Barbara Pendleton in the high jump; Kristi Clarke, Genia Kritz and Angela Facchina in the 100; Ann Oliver in the 880; Sharon Scott in the two mile; Kim Williams in the hurdles.
