When dances at Flatwood Inn on Route 211 sparked complaints, he continued, the supervisors passed an ordinance that required the establishment to close at mi&night -“It was a colored dance hall,” Miller added.
“If you close one at 12, you’ve got to close them all at 12,” Latham responded.
“No sirl” countered Miller. "Flatwood was the only one that had to dose because it was the only one that had complaints.”
(The earlier dance hall ordinance passed by the board applied countywide, not just to Flatwood Inn. When . first . adopted, it sperified midnight as closing time. Subsequently, the board changed the hour to 1 a.m. and finally to 2 a.m.)
Returning to the subject of the community center. Miller daimed that “they make a hell of a lot of noise up there...They go on until 2 a.m. It’s ;a nuisance—-just a place they can go and do as they please.”
“I don’t see why state laws can’t be used to control this,” said Latham, objecting to the adoption of another local ordinance.
