Courtney, 32, of Berryville to serve an additional year in jail for felonious escape from a convict road crew that was working in Rappahannock last April.

Courtland, who was serving 90 months on eight charges of breaking and entering and grand larceny, told the court that depression led to his attempted escape. He said he’d informed the counselor working with him on his alcohol problem that he wanted to be released from the road gang. “I’d been on for three years ...every day.”

According to Courtland’s court appointed attorney, Washington lawyer Sharon Genebach Luke, his attempted escape cost Courtland IS months of time that would have been dropped from his sentence for good behavior.
