For Johnson’s
County History
As a result of a direct mail campaign and a large ad in the Rappahannock News, orders are pouring into the Rappahannock Historical Society for Ned and Elisabeth Johnson’s book, “Rappahannock County, Fact, Fiction, Foolishness, and the Fairfax Story”.
The Johnsons have spent well over three years writing this book, beginning first with Ned’s reminiscences about his long life in the county and those of his father before him.
From there they went to the facts, spending long hours in the archives of the Virginia State Library and the National Archives, to research an elusive bit of information. So that the factual part of the book is as accurate as they could make it.
Orders are coming in from many states, California, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky...most from descendants of original Rappahannock families who want to read about the county of their forefathers. The Johnsons have included in the book lists of old mills, old churches, including those black churches whose history was available, the old oneroom schools, a list of all those who went off to war, early roads and canals.
Until November 20, the book is available on order for $15.95 plus tax. After that, the book goes up to $19.95. It is expected that the book will be available for delivery on or about December 15. The Rappahannock Historical Society is handling the sale of the book for the Johnsons.
