CARY THORNHILL
Cary G. Thornhill, of Boston, Virginia, was attached to Headquarters of the 6th Army Corps, which had just launched an offensive in the Mosselle area when news of the armistice reached him on November 11, 1918.
Cary says there was “right smart activity” at the front, and unfortunately, the orderly who was sent up to the front lines to notify the troops that peace had come was killed before he could deliver his joyous message.
