The mandatory seatbelt law is another nanny bill. I wear a seatbelt when I’m driving and I recommend them for everybody. But if I’m going to be blackmailed by our federal government into complying with their mandate by having to vote on what amounts to an unenforceable law, then the bill before us this year had better comply exactly with the federal statute. Otherwise, they’ll come back to us next time to extort another law from us to mandate air bags, too.
This year I’ll be putting a bill in that will assign the death penalty to adults convicted of selling hard drugs to children. I’ve been told that this bill may not have much of a chance this year, but it’s time that we sent the strongest possible message we can to people who sell cocaine, crack, heroin, PCP and LSD to our kids - we don’t want drug dealers in Virginia. I hope this bill leads us in that direction.
