'Sex, Lies and Videotape
The movie Sex, Lies and Videotape will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The four principal characters - a beautiful, frigid wife (Andie MacDowell), her adulterous husband (Peter Gallagher), her vengeful sister (Laura San Giacomo) and a wounded but clever outsider (James Spader) who fascinates the women talk softly to one another, about one another, and finally about themselves. The 26 yearold director, Steven Soderbergh is from Charlottesville. The movie is rated R.
Fashion show planned
The Rappahannock Woman’s Club annual fashion show will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at Rappahannock County Elementary School. This year’s theme Country Reflections will feature fashions from Frank’s and Warren Quality in Front Royal and Peebles in Warrenton. Tickets may be purchased from any member or contact Chairperson Barbara Burke at 987-8058.
John Hammond in concert
On Sunday, March 11, John Hammond, the legendary blues guitarist, returns to the Gay Street Theatre in Washington, after playing to a sell-out crowd on his last appearance here. Show time will be 7 p.m. Tickets are $8.50 general admission and $10 at the door. A light supper fare will be served before the show, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p. in. at the Town Hall, the cost is $5 per person. Call the Arts Hotline at (703) 675-3073 for further information.
Benefit auction for SVFD
The Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department will hold a benefit auction on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. Anyone wishing to donate items should contact C.B. Johnson at 987-8264 or Tim Falls at 987-8142.
RAA baseball registration
Registration for Rappahannock Athletic Association baseball season will be held March 3 and 10 from 9 a.m. until noon at Amissville fire hall and Rappahannock Elementary School. Teams are Tee Ball ages 6-7 and must be 6 by August 1, 1990; Minors ages 8-9 and some 10 for first timers; Bambinos ages 10-12 and Babe Ruth ages 13-15. Cancer Society meeting

Pre-school film series

Basic beekeeping
The Northern Piedmont Beekeeping Association is offering a free “start-up” course in the art of Beekeeping. The program is designed for the new enthusiast and will provide basic information including proper planning, the biology of the honeybee, beekeeping equipment and different methods of obtaining and keeping honeybees. The program will be held at the Culpeper Extension Office, 101 South Main St., in Culpeper, on Saturday, March 3 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For additional information call (703) 937-5754.
Student art needed
From March 9 through April 1 the Middle Street Gallery will present “Emerging Artists: The Five County High School Show.” This exhibit will include paintings, sculpture, and photography by high school students from the counties of Rappahannock, Fauquier, Warren, Madison and Culpeper. The opening is on Sunday, March 11,3 p.m. to 5 p.m. when jurors awards will be presented.
