Sheriff John Henry Woodward reported this week that a man was arrested in New York who is accused of commiting two felony thefts in the county while posing as a woman.
Sheriff Woodward said that Nelson Payne, who has property in Flint Hill, took in someone who claimed to be Frengelina Lopez. “Ms. Lopez” was accompanied by a younger woman “she” said was her daughter and two young children.
Mr. Payne left “ Ms. Lopez” and “her” companions in his home and returned to find that his farm equipment, van, trailor and most of his household belongings were gone, Sheriff Woodward reported.
The sheriff’s department recovered the farm equipment which was valued at $12,000 in Culpeper, where it had been sold for $1,000.
This past Friday “Frangelina Lopez” was picked up in Albany, N.Y. The younger woman had applied for food stamps, and authorities in New York became suspicious. The van was found and traced to Virginia. When ‘Ms. Lopez” was searched,
