In the end for the varsity boys’ basketball team, the season came down to two games. One Friday night to qualify for the Bull Run District Tournament and one Monday night during which they were eliminated from the tournament.
For the Junior Varsity, hopes are still alive. They were to play firentsville Wednesday evening at Clark County in a mini-tournament. If they are victorious, they will play the winner of the other Wednesday night game Friday evening at Warren County High School in a game to "establish the JV district champion u before the varsity tournament final.
In Monday’s game, which opened the varsity tournament, the Panthers fell 51 to 75 to number one ..needed Clarke County. The county ' .squad managed to play even with the Clarke Eagles for the first quari ter, which ended with a 16 to 16 tie. *, Z Coach Gary Leake said that was “the best quarter the team has played all year. We scored 16 points with a very deliberate offense. We "played well in the first half of the "'second quarter also,” he said. “Then ' -their size advantage kicked in.”
The team was playing without senior starter Jonathan Fletcher, who sat out the game because of ‘school disciplinary action that had nothing to do with the athletic program, Coach Leake said. He said he -did not find out that Jonathan would not be playing until lunchtime Monday,

Coach jCeake said that defense against the taller players, expecially Clarke -County’s tall center was much more difficult without Jonathan Fletcher, and he decided that if Rappahannock tcould not stop Clark from scoring
