The Yale Russian Chorus returns to perform a concert at The Theatre at Washington at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 after an absence of three years.
An a cappella men’s choir from Yale University, the Chorus in this year’s concert will again sing pieces celebrating the musical cultures of Russia and its neighboring republics.
The songs in the Chorus’ repertoire span more than 1,000 years and include folk songs, liturgical hymns, opera choruses, and soldiers’ songs, in Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Latvian, Macedonian, and Armenian.
These are songs cofnposed and scored specifically for male voices, and they draw on the long Russian tradition of deep basses and soaring tenors. i
The concert at The Theatre in Little Washington three years ago was a sell-out.
