Carrie Naramore and Teresa Hudson subjected marshmallows and shaving foam to the effects of a vacuum. Doe Junagan, Jeff Hines and J.C. Welch tossed a buzzerloaded football to show the Doppler Effect. Bonnie Jewell and Leah Marlett surprised youngsters with starch explosions. Hunter Foster and Andrew Kerr carefully eased kids down onto a seat of nails to demonstrate principles of pressure.
Tucker Rogers and Adam Hasse gave students a “magic carpet ride” to experience pressure in a different way. Stephanie Cook, Steve Ralls and Peter Moznich explained about heat while eating candies. James Fletcher and Jason Grimsley demonstrated angular momentum with a bicycle wheel.
Students placing first or second in each category in the junior and senior divisions will advance to the regional Science Fair in Charlottesville March 15. Local Science Fair results were:

2nd place, Asheigh Cannon, molds
Chemistry:
1st place, Brady Wolfe, cookies (also best in show)
