Hampton District representative Mike Massie suggested Mr. McCarthy report what it would cost to use a tower at the County Park and eliminate the tower behind the jail.
In general the county has been pursuing a policy of locating a site for the tower that would be used as the primary location but keeping the current tower as a backup if telephone lines go down or there is a power failure. If the current tower is eliminated, lines to the new tower would have to be hard-wired from the Sheriffs Office and a generator for backup power would be needed.
Mr. McCarthy reported the construction project for the new landfill cell “was going great until the first day of hunting season.” With the opening of the hunting season most of the workers left the job for a week and a half to go hunting, he said. Nevertheless, he said, he expects the cell to be ready to lay the liner before Christmas.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors will be Wednesday, January 4, because January 2 is a holiday.
