“When I work with a client, I want their signature on it, not mine. When I leave, I want them to say this is a reflection of me (the client),” said Ms. Slater.
When she visits a client, Ms. Slater brings along dozens of samples of upholstery, window treatments and fabrics, and examples of furniture, lighting, custom bedding, small accessories, and artwork. She has a contact who does upholstery when needed, and another who does custom sewing.
When designing a room, Ms. Slater first sketches a plan. Colors are chosen, wallpaper, furniture, fabrics, etc. She works closely with the client so that both are satisfied with the decisions.
