Many of bluegrass music’s most honored performers will be on stage at the third annual Graves’ Mountain Festival of Music in Syria this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Headlining on Friday, June 2, will be Del McCoury and the Del McCoury Band, voted the entertainer of the year by the professional members of the International Bluegrass Music Association last year. Ronnie McCoury was again named the mandolin player of the year, and the band had the album of the year “A Deeper Shade of Blue.”
Among the stars on Saturday will be the Osborne Brothers, the newest members of the IMBA’s Hall of Honor, the industry’s most prestigious recognition. The brothers, Sonny and Bob, were among the pioneers of bluegrass music on college campuses, and in Las Vegas, and have been members of the Grand Ole Opry since 1964.
Ralph Stanley, a 1992 inductee of IMBA Hall of Honor, will appear on Thursday with his Clinch Mountain Boys. Also performing that night will be Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers. Larry is a “graduate” of the Clinch Mountain Boys, and he will join the current band to recreate the sounds of Ralph and Carter Stanley, in a long awaited reunion Thursday night.
