The Washington High School Class of 1935 held its 60th reunion last Saturday evening.
Out of the 21 members of the class of 1935, 10 attended this reunion. Several of them still live in Rappahannock: Jack DeBergh, Mabel Pullen (now Lillard), Rayner Snead and Phyllis Vemer. Post graduate Graham Hackley also attended the reunion, with his wife Dorothy.
Others attending, who now live outside of the county, were Franklin Boldridge, Robert Cook, Louise Corbin, Lula Gentry, Andrew Smith and Beatrice Smith. Many brought either their spouse or another member of their family.
The group started out at the home of hosts Rayner and Lois Snead, which is conveniently located just across the street from the old high school. Mr. Snead was a member of the class, nicknamed “Zupher.”
The Sneads offered a selection of beverages and hors d’oeuvres at their home for an hour while members of the Class of 1935 arrived and introduced themselves to the group. Many had not seen each other for 35 years, when the last reunion was held. Everyonfe was asking the question. “Who are you?” And the one teacher who attended, 93-year old Susan Woolston who now lives in Front Royal, asked everyone “Did I teach you?”
After the social hour, everyone moved across the street to have dinner in one of the classrooms at what is now Spring Mountain School. The room had been beautifully decorated by students in Mike Dunnigan’s class, which presently uses the classroom.
