The leftover funds are the result of both spending less than was appropriated and additional funding from the state, chiefly because of a larger than anticipated enrollment. The exact amount will not be known until after the School Board’s meeting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, when the final bills for the year will be paid.
Included in the list of requests is $33,500 to • complete business and general computer labs. The letter notes that the state provided funds for the computers but none for electrical wiring, tables, chairs, air-conditioning or anti-static carpeting.
Also included in the request is $11,900 for installing lights in the back high school parking lot and $23,000 to air-condition the high school auditorium.
Another $11,600 is requested to renovate the high school restrooms. Dr. Gangel also will request $10,000 to contract for custodial services, justifying the request by noting that elimination of the facilities supervisor position means a custodian will need to spend part time on ^“maintenance urn) pnvimnmflnt i<»iiw ” leaving less custodial-work. Dr. Gangel said he was also interested in finding out whether contracting for custodial services could save the school system money over the cost of hiring custodians.
