was his first and last shot at a pro team. “It was my lifelong dream to get as far as I did, and I’m grateful for that. It was enough for me to let football go and get on with my life.”

He grew up in Roanoke and played football at Virginia Tech. He had always wanted to be a priest, and following college he entered seminary with a Benedictine order in California, but he left to follow his other dream of professional football.

Once he was cut by the Redskins he worked for a while with an uncle who owned George Washington’s Old Club on Washington Street in Alexandria. It was indeed George Washington’s old club, converted into a restaurant.
