That council vote set in motion the beginning of a combined effort of individuals to produce a day that would make us all proud. It also triggered a series of events that elevated the spirit of the town to a higher level to togetherness and good will.
It was quite a stirring sight to see our townspeople following the Alexandria Royal Fyfes, Drums and Trumpets as they paraded through the town to the Town Hall, not to mention the moving ceremonies inside the Hall.
A great deal of credit for all of this goes to Mayor J. Stewart Willis for his direction, dedication and persistence in making this a day we all will remember. He, too, is due a big thanks for his role in spearheading the entire effort and steering our town on course toward the next century.
