Change for best
Supervisors take public comment
to heart, change zoning regs
The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors made a
positive move in doing away with the three person
occupancy restriction for family apartments at Monday’s meeting of the board. Although the restriction does not apply after the two year time period that the ordinance requires a family member to occupy the apartment, it’s like Roger Welch said, “If we can’t enforce it why have it in the ordinance at all?” Exactly!
The board also left the 200 foot limit intact and did not approve the suggestion by the planning commission to tighten the distance to 50 feet. A smart move since so many spoke against having a family apartment 50 feet from the main dwelling.
They did approve allowing only one apartment per parcel of land though. That may seem very restrictive to residents with large parcels of land but there are other avenues for development that are allowed. The board is concerned about the issue of density and, with the constant barrage they face from people who want the county to remain as it is, they most likely made the right decision.
Progress made
Gateway Committee has come
a long way in just a year
The Sperryville Gateway Committee has put
together an interesting proposal for future
progress in the village area. They made a preliminary presentation to the board of supervisors Monday and although some changes were suggested by the supervisors and will most likely be made, the group deserves a big hand and lots of kudos for the work they’ve done this year and the progress they’ve made. They should be an inspiration to the other villages in the county to jump on the bandwagon.
