GED testing planned
If you would like to take the GED test, register at your county school board office. The five-part test is offered every second Friday evening and Saturday morning of the month, with your attendance being recommended for both sessions. Testing on Friday is from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. and. Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost for taking the GED test is $35. Upon successful completion a State of Virginia diploma will be issued in your name. Movie at The Theatre
“Character” will be shown at The Theatre in Washington on Friday, Jan. 29 and will start promptly at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults; $4 for students and $3 for children under 12.
“Character” took the best foreign language film prize at this year’s academy awards, but it is substantially different from the typical off-the-rack Hollywood offering. It is rated R, 114 minutes.
Come meet the sheriff
Rappahannock residents are invited to help unite the county and come meet the new sheriff and his department on Sunday, Feb. 7 beginning at 3 p.m. at the Washington Fire Department. Sheriff Larry Sherertz wants to hear from you. He invites residents to bring their questions and concerns to the meeting.

Spring Soccer registration slated
The Rappahannock County Soccer League announces that Spring soccer registration will take place in February. There will be two on-site registrations at Rappahannock County Elementary School on Feb. 6 and 13 from 9 a.m. until noon. For information call Sara Lawrey at 675-1781. •
4-H Winter Camp planned
The Culpeper-Shenandoah-Rappahannock 4-H Winter Camp will be held the weekend of Feb. 19-21 at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center near Front Royal. Campers between the ages of 9-14 may attend. If you are not currently enrolled in 4-H, you can easily enroll and attend this camp. The weekend theme will be “Swinging to the Oldies” and the cost for the camp is $63. Registration forms are available at the Extension Office and Rappahannock County Elementary and High Schools. Family Run 5K planned
On Saturday, Jan. 30 the Shenandoah Valley Runners Club will host the Family Run 5K at Signal Knob Middle School in Strasburg. Runners from Rappahannock County, especially related runners, are welcome to attend. The race will start at 9:30 a.m.; registration begins one hour earlier. Entry fees are $3 for members, $4 for non-members and $1 for students. Call 465-8919 for information.
Health Dept, to hold special hours
The Rappahannock Health Department will be open the second Monday of each month for WIC and WIC check pick-up from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Should you have questions call 675-3516.
