Concern for taxpayers, dedication to
county have marked Massie’s service
By letting his neighbors know early in the year
that he will not seek re-election as county
supervisor from Hampton District next November, Mike Massie has once again shown his care and consideration for the people of the community he serves.
Massie, who has represented Hampton District since 1988, has decided that three terms are enough, and he wishes to spend more time with his family. We understand that. None of his three young daughters have ever known when their dad wasn’t the supervisor. We wish them all well.
While Supervisor Massie contributed much — working on a variety of issues that have faced Rappahannock County over the past 12 years — it is his consistent concern for the taxpaying citizens of Rappahannock that we will remember him. He was always aware that an increase in taxes meant an increased burden, and that any such increases would have fully justified.
Another trait was his interest in listening to anyone in Rappahannock who wanted to talk about their needs and problems. Whether they lived in Hampton District or not didn’t matter.
For the first time in 12 years, the voters in Hampton District will elect a new person to represent them on the Board of Supervisors. Whoever is elected will have big shoes to fill.
