An organizational meeting for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church Parish House in Washington.
The Rappahannock County Chapter has participated in this unique fundraiser for the past five years.
Previously, Rappahannock County teams participated at the Airlie Foundation near Warrenton, as guests of the Fauquier chapter.
But this year, Rappahannock teams will hold their relay, memorial ceremonies and picnic on the grounds of the Rappahannock Elementary School west of Washington.
“We have always been independent, and we got credit for the money we’ve raised for our community. But this year, we’re returning to our own soil,” said Rappahannock chapter member Ester Settle. “Last year, we raised about $25,000, which is a lot of money for a comity of only 6800 people.”
